Located on the north-western edge of the large central linear park, plot S21 marks a major step in the development of the Saint-Martin-du-Touch urban development zone. The old oak trees preserved on the site and the nearby dovecote provide a strong natural and heritage setting, to which our project responds with harmony and respect.
The architectural composition takes these specific features and the urban context into account: the corner buildings assert the large façades overlooking the park, define a built frontage along rue André Turcat and clearly mark the transition between public and private spaces through a pedestrian lane. We were careful to avoid overly long built frontages by creating visual breaks, restoring a more human-scale rhythm close to local vernacular architecture, and moving away from a continuous, monolithic urban language.
At the heart of the block, a landscaped open-ground garden, enriched with new planting and a shared vegetable garden, brings nature back into the neighbourhood and improves residents’ quality of life.
The project embodies the meeting of constructive rigour and specific housing expertise. It reflects the approach of Desplaces Ducher, combining respect for context, environmental awareness, quality of use and durability.
