At the heart of the Chalon-sur-Saône urban area, the Île Saint-Laurent, between the Saône and the Genise, plays a strategic role in revitalising the town centre. As part of the Action Cœur de Ville programme, the town asked us to imagine innovative configurations able to renew quality of life and enhance the appeal of this remarkable site.
This work is fully in line with our approach, which seeks to reconcile urban development with respect for existing contexts. Our thinking pays particular attention to urban forms, which must adapt to constantly evolving contemporary ways of living.
The typological and programmatic diversity of the housing meets the needs of a mixed population. The project includes a residence for older people, studios for young workers and houses, each different and unique, on through-plots facing directly onto the Saône.
By placing quality of life at the centre of our project, we envisage a calm urbanism that restores genuine cohesion between built spaces and natural environments. This approach fosters a living environment in tune with today’s challenges of ecological transition and stronger social bonds within residential neighbourhoods.
