The project involves building a canopy to protect the walkway along the covered play area of the Clichy primary school, housed in the heritage building of the Hôtel de Wendel in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. The aim is to improve the comfort of the playground while blending harmoniously with the existing architecture.
The structure is designed to be light and transparent, with a dark grey powder-coated steel frame and a roof of extra-clear laminated glass, impact-resistant and with a built-in thermal filter. The joints between glass panels are minimised to preserve the slenderness of the whole.
The structure rests on steel brackets perpendicular to the façade, fixed with steel plates and chemical anchors to the load-bearing stone.
Two longitudinal beams support the glazing and drain rainwater with a minimum slope of 5%. LED lighting integrated into the steel profiles replaces the existing lighting. All services are concealed within the structure, ensuring an understated architecture integrated into its heritage setting.
