In Cornebarrieu, on the outskirts of Toulouse, our project sits in a transition zone between the historic village centre and the recent extensions of the ZAC Monges, characterised by large-scale planning. In this hybrid context, our proposal seeks to weave a link between two territorial realities: that of the village, with its oriented buildings, lanes and familiar materials; and that of the “wider landscape” of the ZAC, structured by a central park, planted hedgerows and collective housing schemes.

To connect these two contexts, we designed a block made up of families of buildings with varied typologies, reinterpreting the figures of the faubourg and the grouped house. Their layout follows the two main orientations of the surrounding fabric (east–west / north–south), and their fragmented volumes allow a gentle integration into the site.

We combined the landscape intentions of the masterplan (hedgerows, wooded strips, green corridors) with a more intimate reading of the rural territory: footpaths, private gardens, shared open-ground spaces and communal squares. Through a contemporary approach to housing, the project aims to recover the qualities of neighbourhood-scale planning, fostering a simple, everyday and lasting sociability.
